If a 256-port multi-serial port card supports 80 access controllers for each 485 line, the system capacity is 256 x 80=20480 controllers.

USB to 485 scheme:

There are multi-port USB to 485 devices sold on the market, and the strategy idea is similar to the multi-serial card scheme. This solution is feasible, but it is recommended to do the relevant stability and capacity tests before using a brand. This solution does not require a 485 converter, but please note the load quantity marked by the manufacturer for each 485 port. The principle of the device is to make each 485 line virtual as a serial number of a computer.
