Is it better to choose a linear power supply or a switching power supply?


 Advantages of linear power supply: stable performance, no interference such as high-frequency ripple.

 Disadvantages of linear power supply: heating, low energy utilization. There is no super power supply to choose from.

 Advantages of switching power supply: easy to use high-power power centralized power supply, when raw materials such as rising prices, showing a better cost performance. Small size and light weight. Many brands and models to choose from.

 Disadvantages of the switching power supply: if the quality of the power supply is not good, the high-frequency ripple is not well controlled, and for some access controllers with poor anti-interference ability, it is easy to cause the crash of the access controller, resulting in the situation of not opening the door.


 My views and suggestions: I think you can choose, if you choose switching power supply, it is recommended to choose a brand switching power supply and require the controller to do a better job of anti-interference.


How much power supply is appropriate to choose?


 Most of the access control system uses 12V DC power supply, so the power of the power supply can be evaluated through the rated current parameters of the power supply. Considering the impact resistance and long-term stable operation, the following recommendations are made:


 If a linear power supply is used, if a controller has 4 power locks to calculate, it is recommended to choose a nominal 5-7A linear power supply.

If a linear power supply is used, if a controller has a power plug lock to calculate, it is recommended to choose a linear power supply above nominal 3A.


 If the switching power supply is selected, if a controller has 4 power locks to calculate, it is recommended to choose the nominal 4-5A switching power supply.

 If you choose a switching power supply, if a controller with 1 plug lock to calculate, it is recommended to choose a nominal 3A switching power supply.

 If a controller has eight electric locks or six magnetic locks, it is recommended to choose a switching power supply of more than 10A.


Note:

 Power supply selection, the larger the power and rated current, the better, will not have too much mate effect. If it's too low, it won't work. On the market, there are many power supply manufacturers who are not responsible for exaggerating the rated current and power of their products, so it is recommended that you buy a branded power supply.
